“Nightmare” is one of the words that springs most readily to my mind when it comes to distinguishing the 13 Costa Rican Micrathyria species. The paired abdominal spots are critical, amongst other things. I thought I had a Square-spotted Dasher (Micrathyria ocellata) but it seems these aren’t square enough. Size of the frontal thoracic stripes is also important but sometimes tricky to see.
This species was seen only at the Reserva Curi Cancha. so it’s the sole example that I have.
