Heteragrion erythrogastrum (Red-and-Black Flatwing)

Costa Rica has 10 species of Flatwing split into two families: Flamboyant Flatwings and Dusky Flatwings. This splendid character, H. erythrogastrum, is one of the Flamboyant Flatwings.

We found these twice, first in La Selva Biological Research Station and then in Catarata Llanos del Cortés. It is also one of the few species for which I found females.
