Slightly less than 1cm long, the Tiny Forktail seems appropriately named in one respect, at least.
Dennis Paulson’s book says,
… green and black striped thorax and blue-tipped abdomen are unique.
One of the pictures in the book has a male with a blue ground coloured thorax, as some of mine have. We saw just two examples, firstly at Manuel’s Pond behind the Tirimbina Reserve and again at the tilaperia restaurant that we enjoyed lunch at after an abortive visit to Volcán Tenorio. In Europe, the greenish ground colour would imply immaturity but I’m not sure if that is true in Costa Rica. From looking at pictures on iNaturalist, it is clear that the shape of the blue tail light can also vary quite a bit.
