Ischnura capreolus (Tiny Forktail)

Slightly less than 1cm long, the Tiny Forktail seems appropriately named in one respect. Dennis Paulson’s book says,

… green and black striped thorax and blue-tipped abdomen are unique.

One of the pictures in the book has a male with a blue ground coloured thorax, as mine has – we saw just one example which was at Manuel’s Pond behind the Tirimbina Reserve. In Europe, the greenish ground colour would imply immaturity but I’m not sure if that is true in Costa Rica. From looking at pictures on iNaturalist, it is clear that the shape of the blue tail light can also vary quite a bit.
