On the Zygoptera front, there are two groups in Costa Rica that I have difficulty identifying, the Argia species and these, the Hetaerina species. I was not confident submitting this identification to iNaturalist but happily Dennis Paulson confirmed my suspicions, in this case.
Some of the distinctions of the Hetaerina species centre on whether the wing tips do or don’t have a small red patch and if said red patched affect all four wing or just the hindwings. Unfortunately, without a specimen in the hand, the wings are usually overlapping so the latter distinction is rather masked. If the light catches it right, the abdomen of this attractive species does seem to be distinctive, though.
