Argia oenea (Fiery-eyed Dancer)

There are four species of so-called red eyes in Costa Rica, characterised by startling red eyes and a coppery top to the thorax. Two of these are very similar but are distinguished by the colour of the labrum and the amount of black on S3-6. Argia oenea has a light orange labrum and about 25-33% black on the middle abdominal segments. The similar Argia cupraurea has a dark red labrum and only about 20% black on the middle abdominal segments.
