Now, there are handsome damselflies and there are handsome damselflies and Teinobasis rufithorax (Red-breasted Longtail) is a handsome damselfly. I was immediately captivated when we found our first on day #1 of FNQ 2022 in the Cairns Botanic Gardens.
I was a little surprised to learn that is not endemic to Australia, though I don’t know why. As well as being in the Cape York peninsular of Queensland, it is also found on some of the Torres Strait islands. I never did find a female, though.
