Choristhemis flavoterminata (Yellow-tipped Tigertail)

Choristhemis flavoterminata (Yellow-tipped Tigertail) was a bit of a surprise to me in that it is endemic to Australia but not called “Austro-something”. I imagine that is because the genus isn’t endemic to Australia. It ranges over the eastern side of the country. It’s one of the Synthemistids which are delicately built dragonflies and quite different from any that we get in the UK. This is a running water species, favouring streams and rivers, according to the book.

We saw this character a few times. Most meetings were with males but I did manage to snag an female ovipositing in Northbrook Creek towards the end of our 2019 Queensland trip. I finally got a hung-up female in 2022.
