Yet another red-bodied male dragonfly from the SE Asia region but then, red is a very popular colour in the European arena, too. This species is said to have “rather ill-defined subspecies”.
Received wisdom is that those in the Singapore region are subspecies U. s. insignata. On the other hand, I’ve found a Cambodian dragonfly website that names some there as U. s. signata, which is also in Sri Lanka. Information on other subspecies seems scant. I’ll keep it simple and leave subspecies out of it.
