The stunning Heteragrion majus (Mountain Flatwing). Costa Rica has 10 species of Flatwing split between two families: Flamboyant Flatwings (Heteragrionidae) and Dusky Flatwings (Philogeniidae), containing 5 species each.
This was from Hotel Villa Zurqui, which was an indifferent hotel but which provided a very decent first day introduction to Costa Rican species. We saw just one which sat very patiently in dappled shade without moving. The only aspect which changed was the sunlight occasionally hitting its splendidly bright yellow abdomen tip. I got several pictures but all essentially the same, save for a slightly different angle.
