Brechmorhoga rapax (Amber-banded Clubskimmer)

This is the much more readily identifiable one of our four Costa Rican Brechmorhoga (Clubskimmer) species. This one has a distinctive yellow band on the slightly swollen S7 whereas the remaining species have markings which are white on black.

We saw this at the Reserva Curi Cancha, which is where my flight shot comes from, and on the road up towards La Reserva Bosque Nuboso Santa Elena, giving me the static shots.
