Gynacantha tibiata (Gold-tipped Darner)

This is the only Costa Rican Darner with a green thorax combined with an abdomen fading through brown to an orange-yellow tip. The colouration is quite distinctive.

We saw this in La Selva Biological Reserve. The first encounter found three roosting together in shade. With no boots for the wet, nor tripod for stability (suitcase was still missing) and only a short range flash, my shot of two was decidedly iffy. Luckily I later managed a daytime distant flight shot of a single male but none are award-winning pictures.
