The males of this species have a distinct difference in colour between the reddish-purple pruinose thorax and the bright red abdomen with no pruinosity.
I was really quite surprised to see this, or only specimen, flying around over a an actively volcanic pool in the PN Rincón de la Vieja volcano. It certainly didn’t look very habitable.
