Costa Rica has 11 species of described shadowdamsel – apparently there are a further 4 species yet to be described. These are damselflies of forest streams that like it shadier than we are used to with our European damselflies. They are characterized by having clear wings held closed well above their slender abdomen.
Palaemnema distadens, our only example of a shadowdamsel as far as I know, was at the tree-lined stream flowing through the grounds of Hotel Villa Zurqui.
