Nososticta solida (Orange Threadtail)

An Australian endemic, Nososticta solida apparently “inhabits streams, rivers and riverine pools, including stagnant pools, and lakes”. Well, that doesn’t really exclude much, which may explain why this delightful looking critter is very common. It really is a very handsome damselfly that I didn’t tire of seeing.

My first encounter was at the beautiful Mount Coot-tha Botanic Gardens in Brisbane where I spent some time trying to do it justice – good light helped. They are a favoured subject for in-flight shots and I tried at the river beside the Emerald Botanic Gardens with varying degrees of success. We snagged some successfully at the Barron River Crossing during FNQ 2022.
