Locations in Macaronesia

It isn’t really worth bothering with a map, yet, but we did see one, lone dragonfly during our winter trip to Madeira. Furthermore it was a “lifer”, the so-called Island Darter (Sympetrum striolatum f. nigrifemur), So, for the sake of completeness, here is my Google Map of what we currently know of Macaronesia (i.e. Madeira and the Canary Islands, et al).

Gran Canaria does seem to be a good hunting ground and supports populations of the utterly glorious Red-veined Dropwing (Trithemis arteriosa) so I’ve put that on my hit list. I really should go there and extend the map.

  • Pink markers are sites that we have visited.
The numbers in the markers are counts of species we’ve identified at that site and if you click on them you’ll see a species list.
  • Blue markers are likely candidate sites that we are yet to visit.
