Austrogomphus ochraceus (Jade Hunter)

“The book” is not terribly helpful about Austrogomphus ochraceous (Jade Hunter). There are a few identification tips, though, which I will paraphrase below. Its range is essentially the southeastern corner of Australia from southeast Queensland down.

On our 2019 Queensland excursion we found the female first at Seary’s Creek near Rainbow Beach. The male was found considerably later in the trip at Northbrook Creek. Both encounters were with single individuals.

Id notes

  • antehumeral stripe isolated from collar
  • pterostigma usually windowed, pale inner with thick dark outer margin
  • S8 with basal mid-dorsal stripe
